Knotty Jacks Woodcraft
Ever since I made my first whistle out of a sapling in 1969 I’ve had a passion for fashioning things out of wood. Whistles, whirley-gigs and simple toys evolved over the years into turkey calls, duck decoys and other various forms of wood art. When I was a freshman in High School and all my classmates were making napkin holders, boxes and simple tables, I made my first all wood fretless banjo. I still have it today and play it occationally. After enduring decades of friends and relatives telling me I was stupid, not to be selling the things I was making and giving away as christmas presents. In 2011, I finally started Knotty Jacks Woodcraft LLC. Although I do work two other jobs, I find myself in my woodshop more and more as time goes by. Wow! Now, I have two jobs I love. The vast majority of the items I make, are made from nuisance woods (trees or shrubs people don’t want on their property) or wind falls (storm damaged trees), this way I’m not harming the environment by cutting down the rain forest and enraging all those tree-huggers out there. I’ve also been known to repurpose old wood items, so if you see my art made from purple heart or wenge, it was most likely saved from a burn pile or scrap bin somewhere. At this time I only sell in specialty shops, art galleries and art shows. For locations and dates see my Showings and Upcomming Events page. Thank you for visiting my site.
